TRICKSY BABY!
No skipping to the end. This is a funny story. Also, you might not want to finish reading in the middle. This story has many, many twists and turns.
In Germany, I get an ultrasound at each appointment. So, I've become quite familiar with the antics of crazy baby. Often when the doctor is trying to look at its hands, it hides them. When the doctor is trying to look at the face, it covers it with the hands. One day, tricksy baby kept posing with its hands under its chin. The doctor kept moving it around but back to the pose it went. For FIVE ultrasounds tricksy baby hid the goods.
On an aside, old german ladies have been stopping me in the street to tell me that I'm having a boy. "Okay, thanks," I politely say and move on. My kids at church voted and all but two (the germans) said it was a girl. This pregnancy has been completely different than Eliza's. I was sick with Eliza, but not like with tricksy baby. I puked my guts out with this baby. I think I have puked behind every bush in Bavaria. I have barely gained any weight. I look like I stuck a basketball (wait this is Germany, a Fussball) to the front of me. Because of the old ladies and the difference, I convinced myself that it is a boy.
So, to ultrasound appointment #6. Tricksy baby finally shows the goods.
Doctor: "It's a girl!"
Me: "No, it's not."
Doctor: "I've been doing this for 35 years, and it is a clear shot."
Me: "I have to go home and tell my husband, and I don't want him too excited. How sure are you, in percentage points?"
Doctor: "90%"
I called my husband. He is overjoyed at the thought of two girls! I call my family. My awesome sister in law offers me all of her baby clothes. Too easy, right?
The next week we have our 3D Ultrasound appointment downtown. The doctor put the wand on my belly. There is the head and...
Me: "Holy crap! That is a PENIS!!!"
Doctor: "What did you do before having children?"
Me: "I was an accountant, but I am right. That is a PENIS!?!"
Doctor: "Yes"
Me: "...and you are sure that is a penis?!"
Doctor: "For sure."
Me: "So, that means it's definitely a boy?!"
Doctor: "Generally, when humans have a penis, it is a boy."
Later, walking on the street on my cell phone....
Me: "Claron, they saw something on the ultrasound that you should know about..."
Claron: "Is everything okay? What's wrong?!"
Me: "Honey, I'm sorry to tell you this... but your daughter has a penis."
Claron: *Silence*
Me: "Honey, are you there?"
Claron: "Can't we still raise him as a girl?"
So, we have no idea what to name baby boy Ridge*. Leave me some comments with suggestions. Also, those of you with boys, any advice would be helpful.
*Amanda's crazy naming rules:
1- No place names
2- No occupation names
3- No crazy spellings
4- No top 100 names
I'm sure there are more that I can't think of right now...
P.S. Eliza is now fine with the thought of a baby brother. At first, she was convinced that I was having TWO babies-- a girl and a boy!

That is crazy!! When they told me I was having a girl for number 2, I didn't believe them either... but they were right. But your story takes the cake.
I love your name rules. We had a hard time naming Asher, mostly because I had been teaching in different capacities for 6 years at the time and had associations with every name. And we both have huge families, and I don't like to repeat. My advice is to do what we did... go to the scriptures. Prophet names are good too. Or you could go with a good German name, since you are there. Dieter? ;-)
fantastic story!!!! i think you should just stick with crazy baby :) congrats!!!!!!
Aw, I love this story! Although I do have to say that this girl from my singles ward thought for sure they were having their 3rd girl and only at birth did they come to find out that it was a boy - so those suckers can be wrong.
Love your name rules too - they sound like mine. I'll think on it - should be a strong name to go with Ridge.
HAHAHAHA!!! "Your daughter has a penis" HEHEHEHE. I'm going to laugh all day about this! Boys are awesome...but handfuls. But I guess girls are handfuls as well from what I hear so either way your day will be filled with the unexpected. I'll keep my thinking cap on about boy names....CONGRATS! :)
AWESOME! We're super excited for you both!
I'm with Clark. I was really hopping for another little girl, but Owen had other ideas.
I really like Abraham (#187) for a boy.
Boo for Boys!!! Just kidding. :)
I have no suggestions for names. Sorry. I know you guys will come up with some perfect.
If I had any good name ideas, I'd pass them on. Ironically, when you're pregnant, your brain seems to completely shut down. Right when your unborn child needs you to come up with something brilliant and unique (but not too crazy). So if you have any good girl names you are sad to have discarded upon finding out "she" has a penis, feel free to pass them on. And, as always, congrats!
I laughed really hard. We're 90% having a boy so maybe at the next one it'll be a girl . . . as for names. No clue. I was looking at clothes today and realized despite all my brothers, I have no idea how to raise a boy. Good luck!!
we were going to name our little boy Taber (Tabor) but changed it to Wheeler (a family name) when I actually got prrego--so I like Tabor or Taber
I like Jamie Hixon idea too--
Congrats! I think you'll love having a little boy. I just hope for your sake he develops a more cooperative nature in the next few months!
I can see you with a Simon. Or a Peter. Apparently I'm feeling biblical, but neither of them is on 2011's top 100 list.
Absolutely hilarious! Boy names, I think, are really hard to choose. Maybe because that's the name they'll have their whole lives. No option to change when married (for most guys). I agree with your rules and, with that said, have no names to suggest whatsoever. I love looking at this website for ideas: http://babynamewizard.com/voyager The graphing is just cool. Good luck! And don't worry a bit. Boys are so much fun. Just embrace Legos and dirt and sticks and you'll be fine.
Haha, that is one helleva story! Hilarious. Congratulations, btw...totally exciting!
I've always liked the name Ethan & Owen. Good luck with your name search :)
How about Novak? It's of German origin and sounds cool!
Congrats?!?! What a story, too. :)
I love reading your blog, you are always entertaining. And sorry about the cat ...
